The influence of water-based nanolubrication on mill load and friction during hot rolling of 304 stainless steel

Abstract Using pure water in comparison to water-based lubricant containing 4% TiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs), the hot rolling tests of 304 stainless steel were carried out at a temperature 1050 °C under varying reductions and speeds. The effects lubrication on force, torque, power contact friction systematically investigated. coefficient (COF) during steady-state was inversely calculated using developed flow stress model. COF models including reduction speed proposed via multiple linear regression. results indicated that use nanolubricant enabled force up 6.1% decreases torque 21.6%, compared condition. obtained from regression agreed well with those inverse calculation, suggesting had high accuracy. mechanisms derived boundary regime, owing ball bearing mending NPs, formation thin film pressure.
